about

Another from 1990s explorations with words and music. I went through a period fascinated by stories from Greek Mythology and especially Ted Hughes reimaginations of Ovid Metamorphosis. I think reading them I got the difference between a organised religion that gives a rigid moral framework and 'mythology' that explodes the psychological forces within the realm of the human as a means of understanding are relationship to the world around us. Its like they have two different purposes and are often misunderstandingly compared, much like comparisons of science to religion. A bit like measuring weight with a ruler - it is possible but rather a contorted.

Anyway we were given permission by Ted Hughes in the last few months of his life to use this text from his fantastic Tales from Ovid. First performed at Edinburgh Festival 1998
