Perception Shift (Demo)

about

Part of my artistic process is to treat recorded material as I would a field recording or found sound, as another source of sound to college and manipulate. I think this comes in part from my sound design work for film and theatre. Sometimes I need to create a sound bed or texture to underpin a scene and I'm up against the clock and need to work quickly with not enough time to develop something from scratch. What at first seems like laziness has become a source of new idea. It is interesting finding new combinations of colours, rubbing things uo against each other that weren't necessarily envisaged in that way. I have a feeling I'm in good company, I think Bach repurposed material quite often and to my ear I can hear the same in Shostakovich and Beethoven, and of course Studio One would reuse whole backing tracks for different singers.
